Posted by Administrator on March 1st, 2008

I just discovered the following videos, from “An Evening with Benamar Benatta”, the January 29th event which was held at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Hall in Ottawa recently.

Much appreciation to whomever uploaded them. Thanks!

Benamar shares details of his nightmare-experience.

Benamar’s lawyer, Nicole Chrolavicius.

Matthew Behrens speaks in support of Benamar. He is coordinator of the Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada and Stop Canadian Involvement in Torture.

How long will it take for the Canadian government, regardless any party, to WAKE UP? The complicity of Canadian officials with American abusers has been showing just the subservient mentality that permeates Canadian “security” services. It seems clear that the Bush administration behaves under the “banalization of evil” Law. The unthinkable and the unacceptable is treated as “national security”. Harassment, torture, lies, assassinations, kidnappings and etc…has been the american moto around the world. What for does Canada aligns itself with these absurdities even if not just for self preservation? As Michael Scheuer, the american CIA architect of worldwide kidnapping program shamelessly stated to american Senate “if it is not an american, I DON’T CARE”…Is this what Canada is also saying? Forgetting that Canadians, not even if in the government , ARE NOT AMERICANS? What for, is the Canadian government aligned with the americans in torture, secrecy and any “business”? Not why, but “what for”? It is self deceiving to believe that Canada will be immunized from “the friendly South” aggression. Mr. Benatta’s abuse shows the complicity that will ultimately and inevitably allow US to dictate “what is best for Canada” if there is no reaction. These arbitrary and abusive detentions, torture, abuses, are more than just “mistakes”, as american like to talk about their abuses. They clearly are the symptoms of the disregard the United States had been showing for other countries sovereignty, Canada included.Canada has been receiving a treatment that is not different from the treatment any “banana republic” has received from the americans power obssessed governments. Hopefully there will be a “wake up”. So sad it has to come to extremes like the case of Mr. Benatta’s and other victims clearly cowardly “chosen”.
